As part of the implementation of approved products certified overseas, the MBIE has published a second set of recognition notices.

These notices confirm that selected plumbing and drainage products certified under the Australian WaterMark scheme meet specific clauses of the New Zealand Building Code.

The second set of WaterMark recognition notices cover approximately 38,000 products from 18 WaterMark Schedule of Products categories that have been certified to Australian standards and WaterMark Technical Specifications (WMTS).
These recognitions are in addition to approximately 92,000 WaterMark products that were recognised in late 2025.

The second set of recognition notices can be used in building consent applications now, effective from February 9, 2026.

Recognition notices provide formal recognition of overseas products, streamlining the building consent process by reducing duplication and improving clarity and certainty for designers, specifiers and suppliers. Building Consent Authorities are required to accept these products when used in accordance with the terms of the notice.

Each notice outlines:

• the relevant product categories and the product’s intended use scope of application,

• applicable Building Code clauses (for example B2, G12),

• the Australian standard or WMTS that the product has been certified to, and

• certificate numbers and their expiry dates.
