Fifteen years on from the Canterbury earthquakes, a landmark roundtable will help shape an update to the New Zealand BIM Handbook — formalising the integrated, digital ways of working that the rebuild made necessary.
Revizto, the leading integrated BIM collaboration platform for the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industries, has announced it will host From Rebuild to Digital by Default — a senior industry roundtable aimed at ensuring the collaborative and digital lessons of Christchurch’s post-earthquake rebuild become permanent national practice.
Taking place on April 24 at the Christchurch Town Hall, the event marks 15 years since the Central Recovery Plan set in motion one of the largest reconstruction efforts in New Zealand’s history. Its timing carries added significance — on the same day, One New Zealand Stadium (Te Kaha), one of the rebuild’s most celebrated anchor projects, officially opens to the public.
As the rebuild era draws toward completion, Revizto has convened senior leaders — including members of the BIM Acceleration Committee and the founders of the New Zealand BIM Handbook — to ensure the momentum it generated does not fade. The roundtable will contribute directly to an update of the NZ BIM Handbook, formalising rebuild-era lessons and embedding integrated, digital collaboration as standard practice going forward.
The programme will feature a showcase of landmark rebuild projects delivered using Revizto — among them Te Kaha One New Zealand Stadium, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Parakiore Recreation & Sport Centre, University of Otago – Christchurch Campus Redevelopment, Waimarie Lincoln University Sciences North Building, Waipapa Christchurch Hospital Tower 3, and Christ Church Cathedral.
A panel discussion with Brad Sara (Principal, Warren and Mahoney), Professor Pamela Bell (Professor of Advanced Construction, Victoria University of Wellington), Farzam Farzadi (Technical Director, Beca and Chair of BIMinNZ National Committee), Glenn Jowett (Technical Director, Beca and co-author of the NZ BIM Handbook), and John Hemi (Director, Hemipro Limited) will be held, followed by a working session aimed at establishing an executive group to guide New Zealand’s next phase of digital construction maturity.
