Building consent system consultation period extended

The MBIE is currently consulting on options to improve the building consent system, and has extended the consultation period until August 21, 2023.

This is an important review that aims to modernise the system to provide assurance to building owners and users that building work will be done right first time.

This is a vital chance to get it right — to make changes that genuinely improve the way the system operates. For that to happen, feedback is being sought, which is why the consultation period has been extended by two weeks.

The paper and survey are lengthy so please respond to the areas that are important to you. You do not need to answer all sections or questions. You can choose to use the online submission form or download a copy of the Word document submission form (if you would like more time or wish to complete the submission over multiple sittings).

If you wish to discuss any of the options or your feedback with the MBIE, request a meeting at [email protected].

There is also a two-page summary of the options paper that provides a snapshot of all the options.

Remember — submissions for the consultation now close at 5pm on Monday, August 21, 2023.
