Bunnings Trade, together with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), has launched the Bunnings Trade Future Leader Awards for Women in Trades, aimed at supporting women in trades to help foster an inclusive and diverse industry.

The new initiative will celebrate up and coming female leaders in the industry, and provide them with resources and professional support to help them thrive and inspire other women to join the industry.

NAWIC is a voluntary, non-profit association of women who work either in the construction industry or for business organisations who provide services to the construction industry.

As the third largest industry in New Zealand in terms of employees and contribution to GDP, construction has staggeringly few female participants — 11% of the construction industry is female in management, support and administration roles, only 3% work on the tools.

With a strong representation of female team members in the Bunnings Trade team, Bunnings Trade understands the benefit of encouraging a more diverse and gender balanced workforce in the construction industry.

From March 8 until the April 4, Bunnings Trade is inviting members of the trade industry to nominate a female tradie who shows potential to be a future leader in the industry.

Nominations should include 200 words or less about the nominee for their chance to win one of three grants worth $7500 to support their trade career.

The prize package includes:

• $5000 worth of Bunnings products and materials,

• an AEG product pack valued at $1998,

• a 12-month NAWIC membership and mentorship with a NAWIC team member, and

• a Hard Yakka gift card worth $400.

Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of Bunnings Team and NAWIC members, and judged on the following criteria:

In 200 words or less:

• explain how the nominee is a dedicated and passionate contributor to your trade business and/or the wider industry,

• describe their potential to be innovative and inspire others in the construction industry, and

• explain how they have made a positive impact to other members of the construction industry.

Women, aged 18 or over who are currently in the construction or trades industry are eligible.
